SimplyAnalytics: Citing Data

Use SimplyMap to create maps, data tables, and rankings for your term paper, your business plan, or your marketing study.

SimplyAnalytics Help

SimplyAnalytics's Help File provides guidance for citing in APA style.  (Click on Support, then Help Center, click on the How do I cite SimplyAnalytics Data under the FAQ heading)  Note that the examples in SimplyAnalytics Help are for the U.S. product.  The following is the syntax that they have used, followed by Canadian examples.  (Colours added to make this easier to follow.)

To cite a map that you have created and downloaded from SimplyMap in APA style:

SimplyAnalytics producer (Year). Map with Title of data Year of data retrieved Date, from SimplyAnalytics database.

Example:

SimplyAnalytics. (2013). Map with Environics Analytics Household Expenditure Potential (HEP) Data 2012 retrieved August 23, 2013, from SimplyAnalytics database.

To cite data that you have downloaded from SimplyAnalytics in APA Style:

SimplyAnalytics producer (Year)Title of data Year of data retrieved Date, from SimplyAnalytics database.

Example:

SimplyAnalytics. (2013)Environics Analytics Household Expenditure Potential (HEP) Data 2012 retrieved August 23, 2013, from SimplyAnalytics database.

Tips:

  • (Year) is the year SimplyAnalytics is being accessed (as SimplyAnalytics is always being updated).
  • See below for how to determine the Year of data and the TItle of data.
  • If the Year of data is included in the TItle of data, do not follow the Title of data with the Year of data.
  • The above provides you with the elements to use in your citation.  You will need to adjust the order of elements, punctuation, etc. according to the requirements of the style you are using (i.e., Chicago, MLA, etc).  You will also need to format with hanging indents as required.

Determining the Year of Data and Title of Data

You may determine the Year of data and Title of data by clicking on View metadata under the ACTION menu for the variable in question.
