Finding Comfort During The Study Crunch

by Michelle Cyr-Whiting on 2021-12-08T05:00:00-08:00 | 0 Comments

During the darkness of winter and the heaviness of studying, it can take effort to add some joy to your life.

Borrowing from the Danish concept of hygge may help!

Pronounced hoo-guh in North America, the Oxford English dictionary defines hygge as:

a quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being; contentment from simple pleasures, such as warmth, food, friends, etc.

Those simple pleasures can be anything from lighting a candle to enjoying a warm mug of hot chocolate.  While we obviously don't allow open flame in the library (!), we do have a HappyLight Touch light therapy lamp available for two-hour loan to bring some sunshine to your library study session.

Curious to know more about the appeal of comfort food?  Check out this short documentary, aptly titled, Comfort Food, by Adam Collins.

Some of the books in our December display on the second floor of the library highlight our complex and ever-changing relationship with food:
