Introduction to UNBC's Borealis Research Data Repository

What is Borealis? Borealis, the Canadian Dataverse Repository, is a bilingual, multi-disciplinary, secure, Canadian research data repository, supported by academic libraries and research institutions across Canada. Borealis supports the open discovery, management, sharing, and preservation of Canadian Research Data. UNBC's Borealis Collection is available to researchers affiliated with UNBC and their collaborators, including student and community researchers.

Why deposit data? Depositing data (uploading research data and providing descriptive metadata) has many benefits for the research community. Sharing data can benefit future work in your field, as other researchers may re-use your data. Your work may also be cited more, as your data can be cited as well as your publication. Additionally, some grants and publications are beginning to require project data be deposited in a repository, and some publications require access to data files as part of the peer review process. UNBC's Borealis collection will meet these requirements, as well as allowing embargoes and restricted access datasets.
