UNBC Borealis Data Repository

This guide provides guidance on creating an account and depositing research data in UNBC's Borealis Data Repository

Licenses and Terms of Use

UNBC's Borealis Data Repository includes Creative Commons Licenses and the CC0 public domain dedication as built-in options. See the Creative Commons License Chooser for information about these licenses. Licenses are applied at the deposit level, meaning all files will be assigned the same license.

If none of the available licenses suit your needs you are able to create custom dataset terms. Custom terms allow you to outline the exact terms of use for your data deposit.

Embargoes and Restricted Data

Data deposits may be embargoed up to two years in Borealis. It is important to note that embargo periods cannot be changed once set - embargo periods cannot be shortened or lengthened after the dataset has been published. During an embargo period, the metadata and DOI will be available, but the files will not be available to download.

Embargoes can be set by the Depositor during the data upload process, and can be set at the deposit- or file-level.

Depositors may, for a variety of reasons, choose to restrict access to some or all of the files within a data deposit. Access can be restricted to users from specific institutions affiliated with Borealis, or to specified users. The Depositor is fully responsible for managing access requests for restricted data, including in the event that they are no longer affiliated with UNBC. Access restriction options are available in the same menu as the embargo option mentioned previously on this page.
