Key Statistics Canada tools:

• Census Profiles: Basic census data for Canada, provinces/territories, census divisions (= regional districts in BC), economic regions, Federal electoral districts, census metropolitan areas / census agglomerations, census tracts, census subdivisions (municipalities), disignated places, population centres.
• NHS Profiles: Basic NHS data for Canada, provinces/territories, census divisions (= regional districts in BC), Federal electoral districts, census metropolitan areas / census agglomerations, census subdivisions (municipalities), and census tracts.
• CANSIM: Time series data. 
• Search by keyword or table number, or scroll down page to browse CANSIM tables by subject or by survey. 
• Important: CANSIM tables offer more data than first meets the eye; check out the Add/Remove data tab in any particular table. 
• Click on the Related information tab to find source survey.  Can lead to articles by Statistics Canada analysts.  (e.g., Table 075-0015 --> Survey page --> Census of Population Information for analysts and researchers --> Canada's Enthnocultural Mosaic, 2006 Census.
• Browse by subject: Scroll down to bottom of screen.  Note, in particular, Population and Demography and Population estimates and projections.
• Historical Statistics of Canada, 2nd ed.: Contains about 1,088 statistical tables on the social, economic and institutional conditions of Canada from the start of Confederation in 1867 to the mid-1970s.

Tips:

• There are often notes associated with data (such as the notes at the bottom of a Census or NHS Profile page).  These notes are there for a reason; be aware of them.
• The global non-response rate is given to the right of NHS profile pages.  Note that Statistics Canada does not disseminate NHS data that has a global non-response rate equal to or greater than 50%.
